One hundred talks in on afternoon was massively stimulating – if the reality was a sniff of something and a taste of something else. Change: How has given me much to think about, a load of scribbled notes to follow up and some fascinating insights as to what others are up to. There is clearly a broad consensus that the current electoral system serves us incredibly poorly. And everywhere from the noisy Greeks of Syriza to the humorous Danes of Alternativet new models are popping up.
Most fascinating for me is that the essence of ifF is shared by many of them, and touches a cord with whole range of research and publications that are also out there: I’ve just started ‘Open Tribe’ by Sue Goss which asks how we can match our ancient need for tribal belonging, with the necessity to embrace the ideas of others….. and Naomi Klein’s ‘This Changes Everything’ which identifies people’s movements as our (only) key to diverting capitalism’s destruction of the planet.
At the core of ifF is a desire for properly engaging with all views and for that to enable and facilitate ‘people’s movements’ through active democracy…..
